Lots of blood on snow. This was actually pretty entertaining, especially if you like dark humor. Liam’s still got it but…I think I’ve seen him in this role before…and before that too. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it I guess. My only complaint was I wasn’t a fan of how it ended. 2 watch checks. Ryan would stay awake for this one! It’s rentable.
Isn’t It Romantic
Ahhh the RomCom. The possibilities, the romance and the triumph of love conquering all. We love it and hate it. This is the queen of RomCom movies with a good balance of sweet moments and silly ones. The best part of this movie are the “real” moments like Rebel holding her giant boobs as she slow motion runs to get the guy. Been there! It’s a fun movie for a rainy Saturday afternoon. Skip the theater & rent it. Ryan would be snoozing in the first 5 minutes (it’s not his thing, total chick flick). 3 watch checks.
Fighting With My Family
I love it when a movie takes me into a world I wouldn’t choose to be in. This movie does just that. A wrestling movie? Um, normally I’d say “yeah no thanks”…but Dwayne Johnson’s in it and I just love The Rock. So I decided to give it a try and I’m so glad I did. It’s really well done and who doesn’t love a true story about an underdog. You can rent it for sure but worth watching. Ryan would totally stay awake- the dudes will love it! 1 watch check.
Only 364 more days until the next Oscars!
So excited that GreenBook won Best Picture! Some surprises last night though, for the first time in a long time, I was wrong for both Best Actor & Best Actress. I thought Christian Bale and Glenn Close were golden bets but the Academy didn’t get it wrong: both Rami Malek and Olivia Colmen gave amazing performances. Overall, I just love seeing the rewards of good art. I celebrated with a couple of movie watching pals and a few Oscar signature cocktails. Favorite moment? Bradley & Gaga singing…be still my heart. Are they a couple yet? When I wasn’t watching him, my eyes were drawn to that massive rock around her neck- DAAAANG! Tell me your favorite moment in the comments!
I’m working on adding a few things to this blog. Adding some “widgets”…what’s a widget you ask? I just learned about them as well. They are mini posts or buttons along the right sidebar. The first one I’m adding is my Top 10 Movies to Watch (from last 6 months). A quick reference for you to see which flicks are my recent favorites. It’s a little tricky to keep it to the last 6 months- otherwise Black Panther, A Quiet Place and Ready Player One would have made the list. (I haven’t yet seen SpiderMan: Into the Spider-Verse, otherwise I suspect it would have made my list too) I plan to keep this list changing and remove movies once they age out or get bumped by better films.
Quick question for my grammar friendly pals, I italicized the movie titles in this post but didn’t before…is this necessary still? I’m wondering what should be my norm? Would love your opinion and thanks for reading!

Oscar Time
My first blog post and it’s only 2019 (I’m fashionably late to the blog thing, pretty much how I roll in life too…fashionably late forever.) My plan with this blog is to bring you my movie reviews, to tell you if you should spend the money on a sitter and how many watch check’s I give it (my version of stars- 0 or 1 watch check is really good, 4 or 5 is no bueno). Also if my husband would stay awake. Spoiler: he doesn’t stay awake for much, it needs to be non-stop action/excitement to keep him engaged. If your partner is like that, then you’ll know if you should drag them with you to see it or not.
It’s absolutely fitting that it’s the week before the Oscars! I love the Oscars: the gowns, the upsets, the recognition of all the hard work in a craft that brings me such joy. Bravo to everyone who is nominated! This year’s best picture nominees included some great flicks and some head-scratchers (sorry Favourite, you were not my favorite). Here’s a quick review of some of the Best Picture nominated films:
Lots of buzz about Roma but for me, it missed the mark. I felt like I was watching the story of a beautiful women with no voice or watching someone else tell her story and I would have rather heard her version, to be honest. Plus I got bored. Black and white is cool and all but Charlie Chaplin’s been there, done that. There were some cool shots: airplane in a puddle, zoomed in dog poo (haven’t seen that before) and it probably deserves the award for cinematography. It does seem to be that artsy/cool thing that Hollywood loves though, so it may win. Plus bravo to Netflix for it’s first Oscar nominated best picture, wishing I had invested in Netflix a few years ago. 4 watch checks.
My pick for Best Picture is GreenBook. Such a great story and so well done. I rooted for every character in this film. Who doesn’t love history, genuine friendship and a love story rolled into one with great music and some comedic relief. I’m rooting for this film to take home the golden statue. Zero watch checks. Worth the sitter money, go see it!
Honorable mentions: A Star is Born and Bohemian Rhapsody are both amazing and if you can, see these on the big screen- you won’t be sorry, especially if you are a Bradley Cooper fan, he’s amazeballs. BlacKkKlansman is a film every person SHOULD see and I’m hoping Spike Lee gets the director award for this one.
Thanks for stopping by my blog, I’d love to hear your picks for Best Picture too- leave a comment and let me know your vote!
